Hey y'all, I'm Sally. I'm born and bred in the great state of Texas, and I'm about to embark on what has the potential to be one of the biggest adventures of my life. I'm packin' up and movin' to Ulsan, South Korea, to teach English at the YES English Academy. My first choice was to move to North Korea, but apparently it's not a very fun place at the moment ;).
In my final weeks here every one's been asking about how to keep up with me while I'm over there. Seeing as not everyone is caught up with the Facebook generation (which they should be - if my Granny and Mother are on FB, you should be, too), I think a simple blog is the best way to keep y'all posted on my trials, tribulations, triumphs, and tears.
As most of you know, a little "hiccup" in my big Korea plans occurred just ten days ago. The recruiter that I had been working with since February successfully screwed me over, along with about 35 other people. We were all under the impression that we had jobs and were just playing a waiting game, when in fact the number of jobs this particular recruiter had was cut from 40 to 9. The jobs we thought were already given to us had been filled for weeks, if not months, and our recruiter refused to communicate in any way with any of us. But in the wise words of Justin Timberlake, "what goes around comes around", so I'm not too worried about it anymore :).
After I got over the initial shock of this (a few hours of crying, a good movie and great friends), a wave of determination consumed me & I knew that it didn't have to end there. I got back on the computer, wrote a few emails, posted my resume again, and within hours I had gotten in touch with a great, attentive, and friendly recruiter, offering a job for a school that a friend I have overseas already had recommended. Did I mention her name is Sally? Sweet:)
Sally and I have been working hard and fast to get me to Ulsan ASAP, since I had already quit my job, closed out the lease on my apartment, and found a place for my CatDog Cleo. It's looking like I'll be leaving the states August 28th. I'm currently waiting on my issuance number in order to apply for my Visa. As soon as I get my Visa, the school books me a flight and I'm out in Korea! I'm stressing over where to stay, seeing as my apartment lease is up Thursday, and not working for two weeks.
That's it for now. I just spell-checked this post, and "y'all" didn't get highlighted as a misspelled word.. I'm totally bringing it to Korea with me :)
